Now it's time to organize your piles even further. The possessions you wish to retain should now make their way back into your house, so they don't get mixed up and accidentally disposed of! Next, focus on the pile to get rid of. Further separate this pile into 3 piles:
- To sell,
- To donate,
- To the garbage dump.
Any items you feel still have monetary value can be re-sold by hosting a garage sale or listing them at online classifieds. If you have a lot of items with considerable value, you may even be able to have an auctioneer come in to host an auction to quickly liquidate the goods.
Next, any items that haven't been sold—or weren't attempted to be sold—should be donated to appropriate places. The first step to sorting through your pile of junk is to find out what's in it. Start digging, looking, peeking under corners to get and idea and trigger your memory. If you have boxes, check for labels. Be gentle, it's not likely that everything is on its way out the door to the landfill. While your pile of things will be messy and chaotic, try to organize it into 2 piles. One pile you want to keep, the other pile you want to get rid of.
